"DRINKING HABITS OF THE ISLANDER PEOPLE"

Its been a huge week, just finished an archaeology conference in Fremantle. Usual stuff, a ton of boring papers on topics that you have no interest in at all, sometimes given by people with the same low interest level :o)

The odd paper was interesting though, some even controversial, but all in all it was a good 4 days. Held at the new Maritime Museum in Freo.

conference

Warehouses in the port

Great venue, however the best venues were the various drinking establishments we attacked after the paper sessions. You see the actual aim of these conferences is for archaeologists world wide to gather in one place, talk a pile of intellectual gibberish and then get severely shitfaced each night. Then prove your toughness by fronting at the 8.30 am paper the next morning :o)

Drunken archaeologists at the Sail and Anchor Brewery Pub

Couldn't always front for the 8.30 myself and sometimes not even the 3.30 pm ones :o) Adam and I chose one particular afternoon to tour the submarine on display rather than sit through papers on stone tool exchange amongst island hunter gatherers, you can feel my pain can't you :o)

Apparently you can store up to 1000 cans of beer in the lower torpedo tubes and due to the temp in the tubes they stay icy cold !!!

conference (7)

Torpedo tubes with one torpedo insitu

conference (6)

Adam touring the engines

But as I said the main aim of the event was to end up shitfaced at 2.30 am on a Tuesday in somebody else's hotel room :o)
